Clothes that look right.
We kept wondering: why is it so complicated to find things that are well-designed and that are made from nice materials? You come across the odd thing you like and it’s been vandalized by an unnecessary ‘design detail’ or has a logo plastered on it. Or you come across a perfect vintage coat or shirt, and wonder: why doesn’t anyone make anything like this? We stopped wondering, and decided to just start making the things we like. Beautifully tailored, perfectly utilitarian clothes is how one person described it. There are a few of us. We’re based in New York, Los Angeles, Portland and Paris.
Clothes that feel right.
Material is all important. Clothing fabric needs to be natural, and it needs to be beautiful. You can tell when a fabric is right. It feels different when you rub it between your fingers on a clothing rack. Your hand wants to stay next to it. Sometimes your cheek demands a little rest against it. And it still feels perfect (if rumpled) when you wake up in it after a ten hour flight to another continent. We’re obsessed with finding perfect cottons, wools and denims from the top makers in the world.
A clothing company that does right.
We ensure our clothes are made in a way that does not exploit people or harm our embattled planet. We use organic fabrics and avoid harmful chemical processes. And we only work with suppliers who can certify the fair treatment of their workers. Whenever possible, we produce our garments in Los Angeles at the Kleider studio.
