We get our denims from Nihon Menpu in Okaypa Japan. A cult status among denimphiles and our favorite textile mill on earth. They set up shop in the 50's and have kept their handcrafted techniques and aesthetics of Japanese textiles alive. When it comes to selvage no one can match their heavier weights with loose irregular weaves and nappy surfaces. The dyes are from fermented natural indigo leaves and still to this day its all done by hand.

LIMITED EDITION OF 300 When we found a pile of beautifully weather-beaten, naturally-aged panchos we bought them onsite and brought them back to the Kleider Studio. We used them to engineer the zippered PORTNOY BRIDGE COAT. The fabric is over 40 years old and completely waterproof. The coat itself has a decent weight to it and is suitable for chilly spring days in Manhattan or Maine.

Our button supplier has been collecting vintage buttons since 1955 as a family business. We go to them for our vintage coconut Calvary buttons. In her collection are buttons from the US marines, UK air force that date back to 1917. These buttons have a wonderful patina and its always great recycling!

We searched high and low for our organic yarn dyed shirting. We knew we found what we were looking for when we visited a Hornbach mills in the Austrian alps. One of Europe's oldest mills, true artisans, Hornbach makes the best organic yarn dyed shirting we have ever come across. The plant was awarded the highest eco certification for the third time by the Swiss Textile Testing Institute Testex®.
